Let’s wlcome author R.C. Ryan , author of “Montana Glory” ..Ms. Ryan was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule and answe to some of my questions..Let’s read what she has to say about her life and her writing..

Me : Tell us a little about yourself outside of your writing career…

RUTH : I’m married to my childhood sweetheart.  We met in first grade.  I live in Michigan, just miles from where I grew up.  My husband and I start each morning with a walk of several miles, regardless of the weather.  During the coldest months I use hand and foot warmers while I walk. (In Michigan, the temperature often drops below zero Farenheidt)
We love to travel and have seen a great deal of the US and several other countries.
I love to garden.  Right now I’m busy putting my gardens to bed for the fall and winter, but by February or March I’ll be reading garden and seed catalogs in preparation for another spring dig.
With my husband, five children, and a career that spans half my lifetime, plus my garden and travel hobbies, my life is busy (in a good way) and extremely fulfilled.

Me :  When did you first know you wanted to be a writer?

RUTH : I guess I’ve always known.  While my classmates groaned whenever we were given an assignment to write a story, I was silently cheering.  A few years ago when my mother passed away, and my sisters and I were clearing out our childhood home, I came across a box filled with all my handwritten childhood stories.  That tells me that my mother knew, too, that I would someday take my love of writing to the next step.

Me :  You write both contemporary and historical romance. Which is your favorite and what obstacles have you faced while writing in these genres?

RUTH : It’s impossible to choose a favorite.  I love them both.  And I think that writing in separate genres keeps my voice fresh, since I use a very different voice in contemporary and historical.  I love the flowery language of historicals, and the rich tapestry of history on which to draw.  I love incorporating famous characters from history, especially monarchs, into my stories and giving them fictional voice.
As for writing contemporaries, it’s such fun to take incidents from my own life or that of pals and use them in new ways in my stories.
There are always obstacles.  No matter how much research I do, there is always someone who knows more about my topic than I, and can’t wait to catch my errors and point them out to me.  In a way, though we all dislike being caught making mistakes, I consider such corrections a writer’s badge of honor.  It means a reader has taken the time to not only read my work, but to let me know when I’m wrong.  Now that’s a loyal reader, and I treasure each and every one of them.
Me : Are there any upcoming releases we would like to know about, and could you give us your web site so readers can check it out?

RUTH : My readers can find me at www.ryanlangan.com
I’d love for them to drop by and leave me a note.  I answer each and every one.My next release is from Jove.  A novella entitled THE OTHER SIDE, with stories by J D Robb, Mary Blayney, Patricia Gaffney, Mary Kay McComas, and mine entitled ALMOST HEAVEN.  Stories that are fun, fanciful and just the other side of the Twilight Zone.
Jove will also be releasing yet another novella by this same group of writers in 2011 entitled THE UNQUIET.  Mine, just recently completed, is tentatively entitled THE UNFORGIVEN.
Me : How do you handle the negative reviews and critiques you receive?

RUTH : It’s all part of publishing.  Every time I write something, I’m putting it out there for everyone to read and critique.  I’d love to hit a home-run every time, but once in a while, I guess every player has to strike out.  Then all I can do is take my lumps and move on.  And hopefully grow as a writer.

Me : This about concludes it. Thank you again for joining us. Is there anything else you would like to share?
RUTH :  My sincere thanks for inviting me to share a part of myself with my readers.  I hope all of you will read MONTANA GLORY, and find it a satisfying conclusion to this series.

Thanks Ms. Ryan for doing this interview and thanks Anna@Hachett for arranging this awesome blog tour and sponsoring the giveaway.
